After a week long adventure in Shanghai with the worlds best skaters, Rune Glifberg spotted this gap from a cab window on the way home from the SMP park. Rune figured it was a shot for Josh commenting that it was more suited to the Black Russians style. With a few hours left before my flight, Josh Evins his fiance Tia and I headed to this crazy spot to try to figure out the logistics of this photo. From getting up on the roof, not creating to much attention, and then nailing the shot and not having Josh’s board fly off the roof into heavy traffic where all things to be seriously considered. We found the police not to be so lenient in China as skateboarding was really quite new here so the law wanted to nip it in the bud so to speak. We ended up in someones living room while trying to use sign language and smiles to communicate our intentions. With a boost out the window and a struggle onto the roof we were almost ready. I took up position across the 6 lane highway and now was attracting quite a bit of attention (good and bad)…… the pressure was on. Josh threw down and nailed it first time and with a few hugs and arm pumps, board slaps and some energetic high fives I was off in a cab racing to the airport with a cab driver that was falling asleep at the wheel. They were calling my name on the intercom as I ran into the check in and when finally on the plane I had time to reflect on what an unreal trip I had just been apart of.
thanks J0sh and T-bird, and to Rune and lee Jay, Dave Duncan and the crazy Aussies, Simon, Darren, Trever, Tulio and the other kick ass Brazillians
Good times, good peeps, and more good times at the SMP GRAVITY GAMES 08
